Invisalign®: The Oral Hygiene Guidelines That Can Help You Have a Successful Treatment

Posted .

Your orthodontists, Dr. Vinh Huynh and Dr. Jamie Kim, strongly recommend keeping up with oral hygiene when you align your smile with Invisalign®. This is because oral hygiene can help you maintain a strong and healthy smile, can keep your appliance in tip-top shape and can help you prevent major dental issues. So, make sure to do everything you can to keep up on oral hygiene. Here are some oral hygiene guidelines to follow:

-Brush after each meal: This is important because if you forget to brush, then the food particles and bacteria will be trapped under the aligner all day. This can promote dental issues, like cavities. So, keep your toothbrush and toothpaste in your backpack or purse so you can brush after each meal.

-Floss at least once a day: Flossing can clean between your teeth and along the gums, which can help you prevent tooth decay and gum disease. It’s important to floss daily, but if you can floss more, like after each meal, you should.

-Attend your routine dental checkups: Your routine dental cleanings and exams are vital for a top-notch oral health and smile as well as a successful orthodontic journey. So, make sure to attend your checkups every six months.

-Clean your aligner: You can clean your appliance by rinsing it after each time you take it out of the mouth and by using the Invisalign cleaning kit as recommended.
